Superhuman email, product management, and motivation
Hi folks,
Just finished my first day at work. It was overwhelming, as all first-days are. But I’m hanging in there!
Last week’s newsletter had a 41% open rate. The top link you clicked on was Derek Sivers’ bookYour Music and People .

Here’s what I learned, shared, and paid attention to this week:
1. Article I enjoyed —
How the Head of Growth at Superhuman Does His Email by Dan Shipper
Superhuman is one of the buzziest email apps in Silicon Valley right now. Part of its appeal is the prestige of getting off its waitlist and having the “Sent with Superhuman” email signature. But Superhuman’s core value proposition is its workflows that supposedly help you clear your email inbox in half the time.
Now, I was curious to how someone who worked for a company like that would handle their email.
Did they respond at the speed of light?
Were they always at Inbox Zero?
What’s their excuse when an email fell through the cracks?
The answers are more boring than you’d expect:
Tell your co-workers you’ll respond within 24 hours and never on weekends
Batch your responses into a single chunk of time
Schedule and limit how much you check your email so you get into flow as much as possible
In the end, your productivity boils down to your habits and processes. Unfortunately, not even a $50/month app like Superhuman can save you from yourself.
2. Person I’m following —
Because of my new role as a growth engineer at Convictional, I’ve been scouring the hackerwebs for business and people models to follow. Lenny is one of them. He is a former product manager at Airbnb and writes about product and growth in his excellent newsletter.
The newsletter is predominantly made up of paid posts, so here are five free gateway drugs to Lenny’s work:
3. Quote I’m pondering —
“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the people to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast endless sea.”
— Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
That's it for this week!
Stay strong, stay kind, stay human.
Till next week,
Roxine
